Track of the Week is a weekly blog post we shall be publishing here on theAspiringProducer and it is to highlight our favorite that we’ve heard here this week. It could be from any genre of music whether it’s Hip-Hop/Pop/EDM/R&B/liquidfolkjazzmetalrap. Whatever it is, we shall be sharing it here, however, it will be specifically the TRACK we are talking about it. I’m talking about the production, the beat, the track, whatever you wish to call it. That is what we shall be focusing on.
My pick for this week’s track of the week goes to:
Janet Jackson – BURNITUP! ft. Missy Elliot
Produced by: Dem Jointz, Janet Jackson, Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis
This track is pretty crazy, definitely Janet Jackson (and Missy too, in fact) back with a bang. It’s a fiery, up-tempo banger, with grimy drums and smooth electric pianos. It almost has a certain Timbaland/Danja vibe to it but is definitely very original sounding. It will make you want to dance as soon as you hear it.
Dem Jointz is a name you may recognise right now as he produced 4 songs on Dr. Dre’s latest album, Compton. But he has also produced for Rihanna, Christina Aguilera, Brandy & more. Dude definitely has a great sound, I’m sure we’ll hear more of him in the near future.
Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis – These guys are legends, and I’m not sure I can do them much justice here, but they are a legendary production and writing duo originally from Minneapolis. I believe that Jam & Lewis have more Number 1’s than any other production/writing team in history, with 16 #1 Billboard Hot 100 Hits. Wow. They had huge success with Janet Jackson throughout their entire career, from the mid-80’s all the way to the 2000’s, and were also involved with her brother, Michael Jackson. You may have heard of him. The amount of hits they have is unbelievable and couldn’t possibly be listed here, so I urge you to go check our their Wikipedia Discography.
